Blackawton Primary School Students Honour Village War Memorial

Submitted by Helen Perry on

Pupils from years 5 and 6 cleaned and weeded the Blackawton Village War Memorial this week in preparation for the Remembrance Sunday Memorial Service.  The children from the school worked hard with scrubbing brushes, brooms, scrapers and stiff bristle brushes to make the War Memorial look cared for and sparkling.  The school is working hard to forge and maintain local community links and the request to clean the Memorial came from the Parish Council.  The children who took part in the clean enjoyed working in the sunshine, but were also aware of the gravity and impact of what they were doing.  As Amelie, a year 6 student at the school said “It felt important to do this job to make the Memorial look nice and to honour the people who died so that we can grow up in peace.”
