Kingswear Primary School Website

Like most of the village, Kingswear Primary School is perched on a hillside overlooking the river Dart, in this beautiful part of South Hams in Devon.

With a roll of 53 the school is divided into two full time classes and one part time class. The Key Stage One class taught by Jessica Alford. The Key Stage Two class is split for three mornings a week. Years 3 & 4 are taught by teachers Rachel Helyer and Martin Gold and years 5 & 6 by head teacher Mark Oakshott. On Thursdays the whole of Key Stage 2 work on a work topic with specialist teacher Tom Pether and on Friday afternoons they have music sessions with Susie Trezise.

A Parent and Toddlers Group at the school is run by teaching assistant Janet Hickman in the school hall on Tuesday afternoons from 1.30 to 3.00pm during term time.

We have a recently refurbished playground with a soft play and quiet decked area and use our Sports Field at the top of the village on a weekly basis for PE lessons and after-school sports clubs. This year we have been given the use of land at Fountain Violet Farm to create an outdoor learning space which the whole school will be visiting every week during the summer term.

Each class room has its own computers as well as there being a separate computer room.

Recently both classes have been equipped with the latest electronic interactive white boards.

A babies and toddlers group meets at the school on Tuesday afternoons between 1.30pm and 3.00pm.

We cannot claim that it is essential to good teaching but we do like our view over the river to Dartmouth and Britannia Royal Naval College.
